EXHIBITION: GHOSTS OF GUILDFORD

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Guildford was founded in 1829 as one of the three original settlement towns of Western Australia and is based on the model of an English country town. Iconic buildings are found on almost every corner with the preservation of significant places like the Rose and Crown, Guildford Grammar, The Guildford Hotel, Alfred's Kitchen, the Woodbridge Hotel, The Mechanics Institute and many more. With old buildings comes old stories. There are many legends that pop up about places around town from Old Charlie the vengeful bullock driver, found at the Rose and Crown, to the little girl who roams the river bank at the old Guildford Port. Have you got a story to tell? Or are you just as fascinated as the rest of us?

WHAT TO DO:

Think about your story. You can express it any way you like. You don't have to just write it down. You could draw or paint the landscape that made you feel eerie as you walked the dog one day. Write a poem describing the little girls voice you heard one night when you were all alone. Take a photograph of the room where you felt the warmth of a comforting hand on your shoulder. Think about the history of your home. The ghosts of the past that live on in our memories and stories. Find a way to share that with the rest of us.

INFORMATION TO PROVIDE:

If you want to submit a written piece, you do not have to have any artwork to accompany it. If you want to, you can include old photographs, or new ones. You can have your own self portrait if you would like. I will need a name to credit the work so please include this, or submit it as *anonymous*

THE GIRL IN THE GUILDFORD TOWER

across the way a bell chimes

the time matched on the old post office tower

a flake of paint captures my eye

as do the lonely eyes of the little girl

in the forbidden window.
