An eerie feeling in the dark? The shadow of an old soldier wandering the halls. This is a story and art collection of some of the residents of the Guildford and South Guildford areas. Home of some of the oldest houses in Western Australia, there are bound to be stories of visitors from the past who may overstay their welcome, or linger to take care of the current owners. The first of many, we hope! Please enjoy this
creative interpretation.

Does Guildford Primary School have its very own Moaning Myrtle, the ghost who haunts a toilet in a girls bathroom at Hogwarts castle in the Harry Potter books?

"We have a few things that happen but our spirits seem to be looking out for us rather than out to scare us.

Odd noises at night, sometimes things like to fall off tables etc. and last year
I thought our daughter was next to my bed wanting to go to the toilet because I heard

‘I see you’ right next to my pillow.

Of course, she wasn’t even awake and I think I slept with
one eye open for the rest of the night."

My house isn’t a heritage house but we certainly have some odd sounds. Footsteps down the hallway and a voice late at night., Sometimes there is a flash of light on the baby monitor too, like the curtains are blowing out, letting the sun in, but I go to check and there’s no movement and the window is closed. I’ve taken to pegging the curtain closed.

Well I did have a conversation with a man in my now husbands kitchen, 14 years ago. Didn’t look old mid 30’s just looking all cool and casual, leaning against the kitchen sink. I was pretty surprised to see him there.

When I said to (now husband) “You didn’t tell me you had a flat mate?”

To which he replied, “I don’t?!”

My grandad lived in our house in late 60's-70's, and he passed away in his bedroom that is now my bedroom. When we bought the house in 2010, I got pregnant with the twins that year.

During those months, I would feel a heavy hand on my shoulder or an arm across my shoulders. I would turn around, expecting (         ) there. But nada. Just before the twins were due, I was lounging on the sofa, and in the window I saw a reflection of a man
(cigarette hanging from his mouth, white shirt collar flicked up and slicked back hair) walking behind me, down our hallway, looking in my direction.

It freaked me out so I hobbled up with my huge belly to chase him out of house (cos that's what pregnant women do). But again, nada. No-one there! I described the person to my mum, and she replied 'I think that's your grandad!' After the twins were born, I never felt or saw anything again myself, but the twins (until about 12months of age) would often laugh at something or talk with someone when they were in our bedroom. Interestingly, after my cousin sold the house in 1998, 3 families owned it between 1998-2010, and i often wonder...why the rapid turnover in ownership?? Did my grandad scare them away??

"This art was inspired by the Guildford Hotel and the Midland Town Hall, both are meant to be haunted. I wanted to create my own take on the architecture of the Swan historical buildings."
